How can you share, express and give gratitude to others if you struggle with receiving it? Giving what we struggle to receive is a profound challenge. Some might say not possible. There are many who can give their time, gifts and their ear to others but when others try to give to them, focus attention on them, they are uncomfortable.
This is something to reflect on, and fix. Accepting gratefully will open your heart to giving even more. Because when you experience the pure joy of hearing and receiving another’s gratitude, you will want other’s to experience that too. You will want to tell people how grateful you are, so they can experience the joy.
It’s not self-indulgent or self-centered if your end goal is always to bring joy to the world. Seeing yourself as a valuable vehicle to this end, is essential. It all begins with how we see our self, treat our self and honor our self. Not with a sense of inflated self-importance but rather with a sense of being made in the image of God and so “I have GOOD and essential work to do” so “I’d better take care of self so I can get this work done at the highest level possible.”
And we all share a work in addition to our unique gifts and talents. We are all here to help other people feel the joy of love and appreciation. From that all else flows.
So, today let’s focus on receiving – love and gratitude, forgiveness, compliments and tokens of appreciation from others.
For me, the first receipt of every day is to know and receive that God loves me, unconditionally. For me God IS Love. From that source, I’m then equipped to receive and give in abundance.
AFFIRM: Receiving is essential to giving! I receive as well as I give.
Tip: Practice smiling and saying “thank-you” as you receive gratitude and compliments too. (No brush-off, no “this old thing,” no discomfort; just ‘thank you’ and allow yourself to feel the joy of receiving.) The more you indulge in positive sensations, the less you have the need or desire to complain.
