Hello My Friend,
Just imagine how this myopic approach impacts our ability to create new habits, learn new things and challenge our beliefs. If we don’t deeply believe that a new habit ( or a goal, new information or experience) will be consistent with our static view of the world, that habit will not get formed. Guaranteed.
It’s hard enough as it is to summon up the self-discipline and commitment to the daily action steps we need to take, in order to create new habits or incorporate new knowledge …fighting your own mindset and perspective adds a level of difficulty that is just overwhelming for most. So the easiest thing to do, unfortunately, is stop growing; Not a good option!
Try these 7 steps for the next 7 days – just give it a try and see if this approach to life expands your view and helps you to enjoy live at a deeper level of joy.
Just try it!
Seven Steps — for continued Growth:1. Align your desire for continued growth (new habits, increased knowledge, challenging experiences, etc.) with your present and/or preferred view of the world. Make sure your desire is supported by your beliefs (or preferred beliefs). No alignment = no success with incorporating new growth.2. Be crystal clear about why the new habit, mindset, knowledge or experience is needed and how it takes your perspective/world view/life to new heights. How will new growth help you to live your best possible life ? Be very clear about that.3. Challenge yourself to think critically and read/listen/converse with a desire to learn. Ask questions, assume you don’t know it all and humble yourself in conversations and as you read.4. Discard what is not working for you – those emotions, thoughts and preferences that are limiting your growth potential. Don’t take your feelings and preferences for granted… examine why they are what they are, making sure to uncover the beliefs that underpin your emotions and strong opinions. Sometimes they aren’t so obvious.5. Know your top 3 beliefs – write them, discuss them and explore where they came from. Change them if need be.6. Ask a trusted friend, coach or mentor for feedback – “Are my actions in alignment with what I say my beliefs are?”7. Be the proverbial ‘fly on the wall’ and objectively observe yourself! Are you showing up in the world the way you’d really like to show up? Are you being your best possible self? If no, see what needs to be changed and change it.
