Hello My Friend,
Posting this on Facebook today resonated with people and several private conversations ensued. People are going through so much and sometimes hope is gleamed just in a passing post. # 11 and 12 are added…
Perhaps you or someone you know could use this today:
If you’re in a tough place right now (and don’t quite know why) try one of these:
1. Think of the last good thing you did that really made you smile…
2. Take 5 deep breaths as you reflect on that memory
3. Just get up and stretch, walk and jump – if you can, outside
4. If you are in bed, move any part of your body within your control
5. If God is your source, be grateful for breath and life – well, even if you don’t believe God is your source, be grateful anyway! You’re breathing…it is really a gift, regardless of our temporary emotions
6. ♫♫♫ Play music that inspires you ♫♫♫
7. Go get a hug from someone – really, hugs are seriously healing 🙂
8. Affirm out loud – your favorite phrase or scripture – with passion (yes, fake it)
9. Reflect on why you’re in this tough place – something to change about your life, thoughts or behavior patterns?
10. Remember that all ‘tough places’ get better – when you decide to make them better. The buck does stop with you regarding your mental and emotional states
11. If you have a Laugh File (if not start one today) pull out your funniest pic, book, story or site and just laugh ( Your brain will get the message!)
12. Dance, sing, draw, pot a plant, bake a cake, write a poem, water the flowers/plants, clean a closet or a drawer, clean a mirror, ANYTHING that is positive and active... just take charge and change your physical state, the emotional will follow.
As I share this I reflect on the millions of people in the world who are in life and death situations who do not have the luxury of perusing Facebook or anything online as they fight for their very survival or perhaps have succumbed to the fear of death around the corner. And this ( our stuck states of being) seems frivolous in that context.
But here’s the thing – frivolous or not, it’s the reality – though perhaps self-imposed – of many. And getting unstuck is essential.
So once you’re feeling better – or even before, do think about how you can become a part of the solution for the challenges facing our world. There are many.
People with good hearts and sound information are so desperately needed… to open their eyes and go past their personal pains to healing to helping.
