Hello My Friend!
“You don’t make progress by standing on the sidelines…You make progress by implementing ideas.” Shirley Chisholm was perhaps referring to the political arena as she was a Congresswoman – the first African American female actually, but this clearly applies to every venue of life.
At Home …with children and spouses…talk and complain less
At Work…with colleagues and staff… gossip less
In Relationships…bicker and nag less
In Community/Place of Worship…find less fault
With Yourself…less to no negative self-talk, condemnation and sabotage
In each of the Five Vital Venues, do and be more and complain less!
Life cannot be lived from the sidelines, just like no mater how much you scream and holler from the benches during a game, until you get up and walk out to the field, you are NOT playing the game!
So stop living from behind the protection of mere complaints and “constructive feedback.” Get in the game, do the work and get your hands good and dirty. Only then do you really have the right to critique and provide feedback.
Some questions to reflect upon:
- Are you watching TV shows/movies/videos (or reading books) and “seeing” yourself onscreen – having fun, dealing with challenges, going on vacation – instead of actually making these things happen in your life?
- Do you find you have a strong opinion on many things around you – that you are not a part of?
- Do you have lots of ideas that seldom get implemented?
- What do you do with fear? Act anyway or put the thing off?
- If you had a short list of things to accomplish this year, would you be able to check anything off as yet? (Or on track to completion?)
If you have more than two yesses and they are not for #’s 4 and 5…you need to get into the game of life!
You can begin by speaking less and reflecting more on where action is needed. Then TAKE ACTION!
