Today is day 10 and we’re focusing on the WORK VENUE…as we will be for days 11 and 12. {All previous messages for this 21-day kindness adventure are here}
Let’s take our kindness – though I know from messages you’ve done some kind acts at work already – but, officially let us move on to the place we spend so much of our time; at work. For some that is their own business or their work at school with classes and studying. Whatever “work” means for you, this is the venue we are in for the next 3 days.
Like the home venue, here is a place we can really get bogged down with unresolved issues, ‘office politics,’ and unhealed emotional baggage.
For some though, being kind at work is easier than it is at home. I recognize that there is no one brush stroke that would be true for everyone. With that in mind, I’d like to suggest a variety of acts of kindness and you pick and choose what can work for your situation.
Of course I urge you to create your own customized acts of kindness and watch some of the issues soften…who knows, perhaps after these three days there might be a lighter atmosphere at work, making it possible to deal with some more substantial matters.
For those blessed with an ideal work/business/school environment, I know you will do these acts of kindness with a very grateful heart.
WORK VENUE:
- Bring flowers to work, place in public area
- Treat a colleague to breakfast or lunch
- Give a colleague the parking spot you were going to take
- Hold the door for someone who has their hands full
- Smile at a colleague you barely get along with
- Leave a note of inspiration on a colleagues’ desk or computer
- Compliment a co-worker on a job well done
- Arrange to give a friend at work that is in need of a break one of your days (sick day, personal day or vacation day)
- Have a staff meeting and challenge your staff to do acts of kindness for others
- Offer to tutor a classmate you know is struggling with coursework
- Invite a classmate to lunch or to study – someone you know would appreciate the company
- Listen to a friend at work with fresh ears and open heart
Kindness at work increases the joy of the atmosphere which in turn increases the level of output and morale…but don’t do it for that, do it because you really just want to be kind.
Self Venue:
- Read the note you wrote yesterday…about what you love about yourself
- Spend 10 minutes in quiet stillness, imagining yourself being kind in situations that are challenging
Finally, do something spontaneous and wonderful, random and kind for someone today. Let it just occur during the course of your day.
This may be the venue where being kind becomes more challenging or it may be easier for you…whichever it is, I urge you to push yourself further than what is comfortable. Do more than you think you can handle. That’s where you will grow the most and really become more naturally and habitually kind.
Wishing you an exciting day of kindness and wonderful surprises…
And as always, I wish you love and joy, peace and light,
♥~
