Overcoming Obstacles: 50 Stories on How to Move Beyond Difficulties
This book, recently published by Mentors Digest contains the most inspiring stories filled with powerful and lived advice for moving beyond our hurdles in life. The stories and articles have some common themes, as pointed out by the Editor-in-chief Patricia Dietz, such as: every single human being is worthy of living their best possible life, we each have the power of choice and, as far as overcoming obstacles is concerned we are each blessed with the ability to accomplish whatever another person has accomplished.
Highly acclaimed speakers, writers and thought leaders such as Jack Canfield, Les Brown, Brian Tracy, Dr. Wayne Dyer, Dan Kennedy, Ken Varga, Marshall Sylver and many others, too many to name, have contributed to this timeless and value laden book.
My own personal story of overcoming childhood, sexual abuse is included. I tell the story first from the perspective of the little girl in me and then from the eyes of the woman I am today. Moving from victim (all about pain, self and bruised emotions) to a healed, whole (for the most part :)) and service- minded person, dedicated to positively impacting our world was no small feat. It was hard work for sure. But again, if I can overcome this, you can overcome “that,” whatever your “that” might be.
I outline the 10 specific steps I took in my article “Ten Steps Into Light: Surviving Childhood Abuse.” Though this is my particular story, the beauty of a principle-based personal recovery effort is this: it applies to ALL challenges and to ALL people.
Whatever your life story or present challenges, there are stories in this book that will offer solutions and suggestions. You will see yourself in people’s pain and in their triumphs; like “born to be an athlete,” Erica Davis who states in her title “This Is Not The Life I Ordered.” Erica became paralyzed from the chest down but was not stopped. She went on to become the first woman to wheel/push to the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa! It’s just not possible to read this story and not be inspired to reach your highest and best, after the goose-bumps of course.
You will be amazed by these stories of triumph and recovery…from life-threatening diseases like cancer and AIDS, abuse- all kinds, addictions, debilitating accidents, bad decisions and judgment calls, ravages of war, fire, tsunami and hurricanes, loss by death, divorce, abandonment, bankruptcy, homelessness, foreclosures, and more.
You will be equally amazed by the wisdom and helpfulness of the practical action plans put forth by the contributors. They work! Based on universal principles of personal choice, intrinsic human worth, service and kindness, integrity, and a shared human capacity to succeed no matter the odds, the action plans are all within reach of anybody with a desire to live their best possible life.
It is so much more than “a book.” If a person took one month and read just 2 of these short stories/articles a day (or even, 2 months and read one a day) they would take their life into the stratosphere. For the price of one book, they would have at their fingertips the essence of the offerings of these 50 highly successful gurus and contributors. With some commitment and self-discipline in tow, all that would be needed is daily action to take your life from where it is now to where you would like it be.
My only word of caution: Do not allow these stories to simply make you feel good or better or inspired…GET UP and take action. We read what great achievers write not just to feel good and hopeful, inspired and optimistic about their journey; we read so we can do better and be better in our daily life. This book helps you to do just that IF you take action.
Overcoming Obstacles is a perfect gift for you, a friend, a colleague or loved one. It’s the kind of gift that will always have something more to give… and just when needed the most.
Wishing you an abundance of peace, love and prosperity,
~♥~
P.S. And if these 50 stories are not enough, also included in this gem of a book are two full length interviews with Mentor’s Digest Founder, Linda Forsyth and Luigi T. Peccenini and Dr. Hari Harilela. Both men are wise visionaries with practical advice that will inspire you and move you to action. Linda’s own article “The Love of One Person” brings to life in a delightful story, the power of believing in yourself and in who you are and in knowing that you are never alone.
