Hello Dear One,
My Pastor once said – not sure if he was quoting someone – that the cemetery is the most valuable real estate because of all the great ideas there, ideas that could have changed the world for the better. It’s sad but true that we – many of us, live and die with our dreams dried up.
I’d like you to take action on one of your top dreams today. By reviewing how others dream of impacting the world, I hope you are inspired to make yours come true.
At some point in our life we begin to see ourselves as a change agent…as someone who can make a significant difference in the world. It may be a private thought, one we don’t share unless there is a moment of fearless optimism and we’re just dreaming out loud, talking to our coach or trusted mentor.
In conversations and workshops over the past 4 decades these are the top five ways people have shared that they dream about impacting the world:
- Being remembered by loved ones as a caring and wonderful person
- Raising (or mentoring other people’s children) children who are good, kind and helpful
- Solving a problem that exists in society, worldwide or in your community that will benefit many people
- Being rich enough to help A LOT of people
- Having a platform that receives major attention so a cause can be fought for with maximum support and coverage
So here is my question for you…if you have dreams that fall into these five categories, are you bringing them to life? Or perhaps your dreams are not covered here…but still, are you taking action on them?
If #1 is your dream, are you thinking thoughts, feeling feelings and taking action steps that are caring and wonderful in your daily life…today? We cannot miraculously be remembered in a way other than how we life.
If #2 is your dream, are you living the way you’d like your children to turn out? Or are you saying one thing and doing another. There is nothing wrong with making mistakes, we all make those and hopefully learn from them. But if we are trying to raise children to somehow be different from who we are and how we are living, we are going against the grain of influence. Young people become what they see with much more certainty than what they hear.
If #3 is your dream, have you named what your passion is? Which of our world’s challenges does this passion address? Do you spend time researching and thinking about this challenge and the possible solutions? Have you taken action on any of these ideas and possible solutions? Have you teamed up with others on solving this issue? If you haven’t, consider reaching out to a few people today to register your interest and to become involved in meeting this challenge – at any level.
If #4 is your dream, are you on a path to creating excess wealth or financial freedom? Have you created a plan to get rid of debt and accumulate wealth? Is there an excellent product or service you can bring to market that can be a source of income? Perhaps related to your passion? What can you do today to move one step closer to realizing this dream? Can you experience the joy of material giving at the level of your income today? With just an extra few cents, you can make someone’s day. And beyond the material, you can create a miracle with a smile. Remember that as you grow your riches. 🙂
If #5 is your dream, are you taking a position on the cause of choice whenever and wherever you can? As you build this platform, are you mindful of your “brand” and how you are projecting yourself to the world. Often we have the best intentions but what we say to people or on social media belies our true sentiments. We have to be mindfully engaged in our life – from moment to moment, if we wish to grow a platform and be listened to.
And…be prepared to be ignored, if what you are saying is not “popular”…this may in fact be the best sign that you are on to something because often, reasonable and principled positions that are different from popular opinion get buried under the barrage of the mediocre and the media approved.
Dreaming of impacting the world and having influence is something we share with each other. At some level, we all seek meaning and fulfillment and even if it’s just to be our best self or to convince one person of some one thing, we are seeking to influence the world. I believe until we begin to get worn down by life and disappointments, challenges and cynicism, we have a bright light of desire in us to positively impact our world.
I urge you to rekindle your dreams, take further action on those you’ve started to pursue and encourage yourself to remain on fire. What you have in your heart to do is needed and if you hold on to that belief you will take action.
…And I believe in myself because I know where my strength comes from…my faith in God.
I know you know people who hold on to their ideas until they are talking about them in the past tense. “I used to want to…” or “I once had the idea to…,” “When I was younger I really wanted to…”
If they are not talking about their ideas in the past tense, it’s the future tense: “One day I’m going to…”
Don’t take that path…TAKE ACTION TODAY and live the life you were born to live; do the things you were born to do and be who you were created to be – your highest and best self.
Wishing you an abundance of peace and joy always,
~♥~
