Everything is going well and all of a sudden you find yourself starting to feel negative. Has this ever happened to you? Does it happen often? Read on for some ways to have this happen less and less.
Of course there may be reasons that have to do with hormones, life changes and life events that bring with them feelings and sensations we must learn to manage.
Apart from these sorts of causes – which would have their own remedies and approaches, a sour state of being is something that is completely within your control.
And even with life changes, hormones and sudden events, we can do something about getting better control over our reactions.
Here are some ways to manage those moods that just pop up out of no where:
1. KNOW your self. Know what is normal for you and remain aware so that when something pops into your mind and spirit you can detect it just about instantly.
2. When some thought or emotion pops up, HAVE A PLAN: Know ahead of time what you will do and how you will react.
3. Have a powerful affirmation, scripture or mantra to speak to this negative invasion….and speak it with authority and power. Say “no, I am NOT having this right now!” You’d be amazed at how quickly things turn around.
4. Stop for a designated amount of time – say 2 minutes – and observe the emotion or sensation. Observe like a reporter would. What’s this about, ask yourself. Where did you come from? Why are you popping up now? What are you afraid of, pray tell? What are you trying to stop me from doing or feeling? Is this my intuition at work or fear at play?
5. Answer the questions with complete, courageous honesty
6. If the answers are coming fast and you have the time to devote your full attention, do so. If not, make a commitment to get back to this “conversation” and make sure you do, within 24 hours.
7. Jump up if you’re sitting, start to walk if you are able, stretch if at all possible…whatever you do, change your body posture and get the blood flowing
8. Take several very deep diaphragmatic breaths. Get more oxygen circulating throughout your body
9. Listen to a piece of uplifting and ‘make your body move’ music. (Know what this would be ahead of time)
10. Start writing…about anything that pops up
11. Write out a long list of all the things you are grateful for
12. Think of who you can do something nice for and get started doing it
13. Read your favorite Bible verses/motivational book – especially the sentences you have underlined or commented about in the margin.
14. GO for a long walk, do some gardening, or exercise
15. Drink a full glass of water
16. Devote 5 minutes a day to ‘bad moods’ if this is something that happens daily
17. Send an ecard or real card to someone you love and/or would like to cheer up
18. Go visit or call someone who is home or hospital bound
19. Completely ignore the negative thought or emotion – completely – and keep doing what you are doing
20. Re-label the ‘negative’ thought or feeling and call it your ‘stuff to work through’. (Then of course, work through it at a more convenient time.)
Give some of these a whirl, try them on and see how they work. Having been plagued with negative memories and thoughts for so much of my life, I’ve learned to manage them and in some cases even make them my friend. It’s through analysis of some of these states that breakthroughs and wisdom have come and grown.
Some of it though just needed to be right sized….put in their place and shown who is in control. 🙂
Take charge of your ‘bad moods’, use the ones with useful information behind them and discard those that do not serve you well. When we’re creating habits that help, resistance is inevitable, so be prepared.
Let me know how it goes.
Wishing you an abundance of love, light and joy,
♥~
